What is the BMDC?

The Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) is the statutory body that regulates medical education and practice in Bangladesh. It is the exact equivalent of the National Medical Commission (NMC) in India.

Why Do Indian Students Care About the BMDC?

The NMC 2021 Gazette states a very strict rule for all students studying MBBS abroad: "The foreign medical graduate must be registered with the respective professional regulatory body competent to grant a license to practice medicine in their respective jurisdiction."

This means your degree is only valid in India if the government of Bangladesh theoretically allows you to practice medicine in Bangladesh.

The Process

When you secure admission to an MBBS program in Bangladesh, your medical college will facilitate your registration with the BMDC. As an international student, you will receive a Temporary Registration that allows you to undergo clinical training and complete your internship in Bangladeshi hospitals.
