Where you live during your MBBS journey significantly impacts your academic performance and mental peace. In Bangladesh, Indian students generally have two choices: the official college hostel or a rented apartment off-campus.

The College Hostel (Highly Recommended)

For the first few years, staying in the college hostel is almost mandatory and highly recommended by NilEducation.

• Safety: Hostels are situated within or adjacent to the college campus with 24/7 security. This is particularly crucial for female students.
• Cost: Hostel fees are subsidized. You can expect to pay anywhere between $50 to $100 per month.
• Convenience: You save time and money on daily commuting. Furthermore, the Indian mess is usually located right inside or next to the hostel building.

Renting an Apartment (For Senior Students)

Many students choose to rent apartments in groups of 3 or 4 during their 3rd or 4th year.

• Privacy & Freedom: Apartments offer more privacy, larger rooms, and the freedom to cook your own meals.
• Cost: A decent 2-3 BHK apartment in areas near colleges (like Dhanmondi or Uttara in Dhaka) can cost between ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month. When split among flatmates, the rent is comparable to hostel fees.
• The Catch: You have to manage utility bills (electricity, water, internet), arrange your own security, and commute to the college daily, which can be stressful during exams.

Our advice? Stick to the hostel for the first three years to build a strong academic foundation before considering an apartment.
