The Strictest Rule in Bangladesh Admissions

In India and Russia, you can take multiple drop years to prepare for NEET, and age is rarely a barrier to admission. Bangladesh, however, has a very strict rule enforced by the DGME regarding study gaps.

The 2-Year Gap Limit

According to the regulations for international students, you cannot have a study gap of more than two years after passing your 12th standard board exams (HSC or equivalent).

Example for 2026 Admissions:

• If you passed your 12th standard in 2026, you are perfectly eligible.
• If you passed your 12th standard in 2025 (1 drop year), you are eligible.
• If you passed your 12th standard in 2024 (2 drop years), you are eligible.
• If you passed your 12th standard in 2023 or earlier, you are unfortunately not eligible to apply for the standard MBBS program in Bangladesh.

Are There Any Exceptions?

No. The DGME software automatically rejects applications where the passing year of the 12th standard exceeds the 2-year limit. If you have a larger gap, NilEducation highly recommends looking at excellent NMC-approved universities in Russia or Central Asia, which do not have this restriction.
