The Ultimate Packing List for Indian Students Going to Georgia
Pack Smart, Not Heavy
You’ve got your visa, your admission letter, and your flight tickets. Now comes the stressful part: packing for a whole year abroad. Most Indian students make the mistake of packing too much heavy winter gear and too many utensils. Here is the ultimate, practical packing list.
1. Documents (Carry in Cabin Baggage!)
- Original Passport with Visa.
- University Admission Letter & NCEQE Approval.
- Original 10th and 12th Marksheets (Apostilled).
- NEET Scorecard.
- 20 Passport Size Photographs (White background).
- $500 to $1,000 in physical cash (USD) and a loaded Forex Card.
2. Clothing & Winter Gear
Do NOT buy heavy, expensive winter jackets in India. They are not designed for European winters. Pack light for the journey:
- 2-3 pairs of jeans and comfortable t-shirts/shirts.
- 1 light jacket and a hoodie for the initial autumn weeks.
- 1 set of formal wear (for university ceremonies/vivas).
- 2-3 sets of high-quality thermal innerwear (buy this in India).
- Undergarments and socks for at least 2 weeks.
- Buy your heavy winter coat, waterproof boots, and gloves in Georgia from local brands. They are cheaper and much more effective.
3. Medical Supplies
While Georgia has excellent pharmacies, you need basic medicines for immediate relief until you figure out the local system:
- Paracetamol (fever), Cetirizine (allergies), Antacids (stomach upset).
- Basic first-aid (Band-aids, antiseptic cream).
- A digital thermometer.
- A White Doctor's Apron/Coat (cheaper to buy in India).
- A basic Stethoscope (buy a good quality Littmann later in your 3rd year).
4. Electronics and Adapters
- A reliable laptop (mandatory for studies and exams).
- European Two-Pin Plug Adapters (Georgia uses the standard EU plug, Type C/F).
- A high-capacity power bank.
5. Food & Spices
Don't carry rice or dal—they are heavy and easily available in Georgian supermarkets. Instead, carry:
- Specific Indian masalas (Garam Masala, Chole Masala, specific pickles) that you love.
- A small pressure cooker (very expensive in Europe).
- Ready-to-eat packets (Maggi, Haldiram) for the first few days while you settle in.
