Vegetarian Food Availability in Nepal Medical College Hostels
A Home Away From Home for Vegetarians
One of the biggest concerns for Indian parents sending their children for MBBS in Nepal is the availability of pure vegetarian food. Unlike Central Asian or European countries where vegetarian options are scarce, Nepal is a haven for vegetarians.
Hostel Mess Facilities
Almost all major medical colleges (like Manipal, Kathmandu Medical College, and Nepalgunj Medical College) have dedicated Indian mess facilities. These messes are often run by Indian contractors. They offer distinct vegetarian and non-vegetarian sections, ensuring pure veg food is prepared separately.
The Daily Menu
The standard diet in Nepal is incredibly similar to North India. Your daily meals will consist of Roti, Rice (Bhaat), Dal, and seasonal vegetable curries (Tarkari). Breakfast typically includes items like Poha, Upma, Parathas, or Puri Sabzi.
Local Restaurants and Grocery
Outside the campus, finding pure vegetarian restaurants (often labeled as "Bhojanalaya") is extremely easy. Furthermore, Indian grocery brands (Amul, Britannia, Haldiram's) are widely available in supermarkets, allowing students to cook their own comfort food if they move to private apartments.
